Jila Baniyaghoub, reporter, women’s rights activist and editor of the website Focus on Iranian Women, was summoned to Evin prison’s court where she was detained and transferred to the women’s ward of the prison.
Baniyaghoub was sentenced to one year in prison and a 30-year ban on any press or journalistic activities. She was arrested along with her husband, journalist Bahman Ahmad Amouie in June 2009 after the contested presidential elections. Jila was released on bail after 2 months and her husband Bahman has been serving his 5-year prison sentence behind bars for the past 3 years at Evin and Rajai Shahr prisons.
Today, September 2 2012, award-winning journalist Jila Baniyaghoub has entered Evin prison to serve one year behind bars while her husband is being kept in a different facility at Rajai Shahr.
